Hello Neuse Families!

I am hoping this post finds you all well. I am happy to say that we had most of the kids show up on Thursday and Friday of last week. I know Hurricane Mathew has caused great devastation throughout our county and I am sure we all know someone who this has touched in a negative way. I am hoping to start a collection of canned goods to give to those impacted by the storm. If you could send one or two cans along, we are going to distribute them to victims of the storm. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Since the last two weeks have not been consistent, I am extending homework from last week along to this week. This will also include the spelling words. We did not work on spelling last week so I would like to cover it this week. We will learn about the King of ING and you will have some kings and princesses coming home this week!

Pumpkin Math
October is such a fun autumn month. To get ready for Halloween and learn some math on the way, students are asked to bring in a SMALL pumpkin weighing 1 – 3 pounds. This pumpkin should be light enough for the students to carry it to the classroom without help. You may begin bringing in the pumpkins and they all should be in school by October 24th. I will have extras in case you forget or the pumpkins begin to rot. We will measure, weigh, add, and subtract using the pumpkins and put this information together in a book. Then we will decorate the pumpkins just in time for Halloween and bring them home.

Reminders:

*Please check spelling homework every night. This is a reflection on how well they do on their spelling test so it is important that they practice daily.

*Please initial behavior chart on a daily basis. We have had some issues with talking in the classroom and as the year progressing I am hoping this will begin to dwindle. It is important for students to stay on task and get their work done so we can have meaningful learning time.

* I will be sending home our math unit test. Please sign and return these when they are sent home.

*When sending in money, please make sure that it is labeled with what it is for. We have had lots of money in pouches for lunch but students then forget what they were supposed to order. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

This week we will review concepts that have been covered during the first quarter. We will start our new story for the week on Monday.

I hope you have a great week and I can't wait to see all my kiddos tomorrow!

Mrs. Atkisson
