December 12-16

Hello Fist Grade Parents!
I bet your child is ready for Christmas vacation! We have been working so hard and reviewing all of our curriculum up to this point of the year. I told the class that when we come back in January we are going to begin second grade boot camp! I can't believe how much all of my students have grown academically. It truly has been a joy to see. We are now writing paragraphs with details, adding in our head, reading and answering questions at all different levels! We are almost at the half way mark and we still have a ways to go.
We are also gearing up for all of our fun Christmas activities. As a reminder, here are the dates:

December 15 we will have Grinch Day. Students may come to school dressed in green or even characters from the book. We will spend the day working on things that are all Grinch!  This flyer was sent home today.

December 16th we will have our holiday party. My wonderful room mothers (Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Joyner) have some amazing things planned for our sweet first graders. It will be much like our Halloween party so if I can get some parents to come in and help with stations I will really appreciate it. The sign up genius was sent about five days ago.  I  also just sent another email to make sure all the parents received it and you can sign up for items that are needed. The party will be from 11:00 to 1:00. Hope to see you there!

December 19th we will have our polar express day. Kids may come to school dressed in pajamas and we will have a pancake breakfast and drink some hot chocolate. We will be watching the movie and then following up with some activities.

Important Dates
Dec 16 - Holiday Celebration 11 PM
Dec 20 - End of 2nd Quarter & Early Release @ 11:45AM
Dec 21 - Jan 8 - Winter Break
Remember to make sure that your child is completing their spelling homework in the spelling notebook. I collect it every Friday along with their weekly homework. At the beginning of the quarter,  I  made the decision to take up the homework as a grade that would be added to our overall spelling grade.  However, I am getting several student who are not completing their spelling homework or only doing one day. We cover spelling in the classroom but it also helps your student out if they practice their spelling at home. Please make sure that your student is working on spelling throughout the week.
I will also need your student to bring in  a box of  24 crayons,  a new single subject notebook, and some glue sticks for the second half of the year. They will be taking their Reading Notebook home at the end of the quarter and we will be combining all of our old crayons.
