Update 3/19/2020

Hello everyone!

I think today went really well. This is a learning experience for us all so I am definitely taking it one day at a time!

A few things to clear up:

I have been confusing a few parents (my fault completely) when I refer Reading A-Z I am actually meaning RAZ kids. Reading A-Z is what I see on my end and you all see RAZ. So I have been using both terms accidentally. I apologize for any confusion.

Also- please make sure your child is only working on the assignment assigned to them on RAZ kids. I have a few students that have read several books and taken several quizzes. I love the enthusiasm but we are just going to stick to the ones assigned for the moment. If your child would like to read more with quizzes, Freckle is a great site to explore. I have a few assignments on there that they can complete if they are looking for something to do.

Math assignments on Google Classroom: These assignments are not mandatory at the moment. We have plenty to work on in our packet. These assignments were created so you can familiarize yourself with this new avenue. More so figuring out how to download, edit, and return material. I am also learning as we go!

Packet/Videos: I have had many parent ask how to turn in their work. As of right now, you can keep the packet together with the date written on top. If/when we return I will collect it formy records. Today I started with math and tomorrow I will do a language arts video. Once we get used to this new process, I will be sending out both math and language arts starting next week. I am trying to figure out how to send videos for reading for each group, so once i figure that out, I will have a third video for just reading.

Thank you so much for working with me and I hope we can all get through this together unscathed!!

Welcome to our e-learning page!!!

Hello First Grade Families!

I hope you are all doing safe and well! As we navigate through these uncharted waters together, I want to take a moment and say how proud I am of every one of my kiddos. This past week as we were all trying to come to grips with this changing situation, they were still coming in open and willing to continue to work. They have changed so much from the beginning of the year and have shown SO MUCH growth from where they started. I want to continue on with this momentum and I am sure it will help to keep them some what busy as they are home for an extended period of time. Please email me with any questions that you may have- or if you need any more resources for your child or any other in your home. We will get through this and we will work TOGETHER to make sure they continue to get what they need. I look forward to our partnership in your child's education!
Thanks,
Mrs. Atkisson

Testing Week

Hello!

We will begin mClass testing this week. I am sure you know how important this test is in determining the level that your child is reading on. This year your child will also have to answer the comprehension questions in written form.

Here is a link that will help in explaining a little more about the reading levels:

First Day of School

Hello Neuse Families!

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend before school begins. Here are a few housekeeping tidbits before we start tomorrow:

* Please have your child bring a sweater to school. My classroom has two temperatures: Arctic Tundra and sweltering desert! They may use their sweater if they feel chilly in the classroom. Also, have them bring a water bottle that can be refilled or an extra water bottle that they can drink from. When we get back from recess sometimes we are in need of some water depending on the temperature outside.

* Snack time: We will have snack at 9:50 in the morning. Your child may keep it separate from their lunch or in the same bag as their lunch. Please do what is best for your child to remember what is for snack and what is for lunch. Also, we only have 20 minutes to eat and use the restroom so we ask that their snack is small and filling. Also, since we are under a limited amount of time, we ask that your child drink from their water bottle instead of opening up a juice pouch.

* Administration is asking for parents to walk their child in only on Monday of this week. This way your child may begin their morning routine of exiting the car during morning carpool starting on Tuesday.

* Mrs. Knight sent a first grade wide parent email about after school carpool. If your child goes to an after school daycare and goes to vanpool, please let me know as soon as possible. This also goes for our own after school care (PAWS).

I will send an email to our first grade group as soon as I have an email list completed for our classroom- so for now I will send information through the blog. However, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me using the school email.

Thank you and I can't wait to begin tomorrow!!
